Preparing for a Day at the Durham Fair

Middletown, Connecticut residents living close to Durham plan a yearly, family-friendly trip to the fair. A day at the Durham Fair is an exciting, family-fun adventure offering more than just corn dogs, cotton candy, and funnel cakes. With a lifespan of over 100 years, it's the largest agricultural fair in New England.

From oxen pulls to amusement park rides, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at this yearly event. Preparing for a fun-filled day at the fair doesn't have to be complicated.

Bring along some bottled water to keep you hydrated, and wear plenty of sunscreen while outdoors. The fair has many dining options and so much to see that it's hard to take it all in. Multi-day tickets are available to give you and your family more of an opportunity to see everything.

Enjoy Livestock Exhibits

The livestock exhibit area is home to three large walk-through barns where you can interact with cows, goats, llamas, rabbits, and more. Showmanship competitions and the battle of the barns are fun events to watch with your family.

Thrills and Chills

Adrenaline junkies will love the excitement at Midway, where there's an amusement park ride for everyone. There's ziplining, speed-racing, and a rollercoaster that's sure to satisfy. There are also slower-paced rides like the carousel for those of us who aren't so brave.

Discover History

Allow the historical collection of hand-crank tractors, potbelly stoves, and blacksmith demonstrations to transport you back in time at the farm museum.  A 1930 John Deere GP tractor is the spotlight item in the restored tractor exhibit. In addition, there are many demonstrations and educational opportunities in the farm museum area; these include milking cows, raising chickens, and keeping bees.

Meet the Giants

The plant science exhibit is home to five displays, including fruits, flowers, vegetables, Christmas trees, and a garden of giants. Youngsters will love the prize-winning giant pumpkins and watermelons on display at the Garden of Giants, where they can enter a pumpkin carving contest.
